Caterham is a prosperous residential town, popular with families and professionals alike for its facilities and greenbelt surroundings - not to mention it's location within easy striking distance of London.
The mainline station at Caterham provides a swift commute to Croydon and Central London. Gatwick and Heathrow are easily accessable and the M25 is just at the end of the bypass, ensuring heavy traffic misses the town's retail and commercial centre.
Divided roughly between Caterham Valley and Caterham on the Hill, each with it's own amenities and facilities, the town sits just on the border of the North Downs, in rolling countryside and there are some impressive viewpoints from which to take in the area. From the local aerodrome, you could see even more if you went up in a glider!
Caterham's shopping facilities are there to meet your regular requirements with ease (Safeways and Waitrose in the Valley and a brand new Tesco's up on the Hill complete the compliment of supermarkets). The town has everything else you might need in local shops and high street names, plus a choice of restaurants and pubs to suit any appetite. The town has a good sports centre and library and there are plans afoot for further leisure facilities in the Village, in the heart of Caterham on the Hill.
With around 10 state schools and some excellent independent schools Caterham has plenty of education options and of course, is well connected by bus and train to nearby towns, should you want to cast a wider eye.
House prices compare well with nearby Surrey towns and there is a great deal to offer with a variety of homes available, providing the prospective buyer with a great deal of choice. Newer developments, of which The Village is perhaps the largest, compete with established residential areas to suit most pockets; avenues of 1930's properties - larger detached homes, flat conversions and purpose built blocks, luxury developments - all within easy reach of the town's centre.
All this and the Caterham Car Company - you'll see a fair number of Caterham 7's and 21's nipping around town, though probably a few more behind the garage doors too.
With excellent transport links, a well stocked town centre, choice of schools, urban facilities and rural access, Caterham deserves it's reputation.
